Default History of the jambiya

On the subject of how old the Jambiya is; here is a quote from Ibn Battuta who visited yemen in the ealry 1330's. Now I need to find the arabic version to double check this.

Michael,
This is quite interesting to track down the origin and development of the southern arabic jambiya. I suspect that there is a longer history than most people realise and that the early Roman trade with India via Yemen may even be the genesis.
Can you tell me where the quote you have posted has come from and the date of the translation.
Thanks, Steve
