Default New member, new (old) blade!

Hello all,

I've been a member here for a while, but this is my first post.

I am mainly interested in Nepalese edged weapons but also anything interesting and pointy.

I picked this up earlier this year at auction, and am a little stumped as to exactly what I have. I've had a hunt around, but cannot find a similar article.

Hopefully one of the members here will be able to give me a clue?

Thanks all,

Chris

Hi Chris,
am far from a Indian or Nepalese blade expert but your large knife has a bit of a 'kukri wave' to it and also Indian swords can have this S-swing in the blade; so my guess would be Indian. Sadly its just a guess . . . . lets see for other members' opinions if my hunch is wright.
Best,

Hi Indianajones

Many thanks indeed for your reply! Well you can see why I bought it, with my love of kukri, etc! It does share some characteristics, but it will be interesting to see if anybody can pinpoint its origin!

Hi Chris,

I think Indy's on the right track, recurved Nepalese Bowie is my opinion.

Hi Gene,

Nice to have your input!

In all the excitement I forgot to mention the blade length is almost 19 inches!

I am pretty sure I have seen something similar perhaps in Egerton, but I cannot seem to locate my copy. The recurved blade resembles similar on khanjhar hilted short swords believed Deccani or northern Bengal/Nepal border regions. The hilt certainly resembles the profile of kukri's in degree.

Hi Chris,

Here are some relevant old threads to get you started:

Brilliant stuff,

Thanks to all, especially Emanuel for the links!!

Most interesting, I've never encountered one of these before, so i'm very pleased to have learned something, and even more chuffed that it fits into my collecting theme!
