Default Takouba for comment

I was surprised to see this on a table at the MACA meeting last night; there are not many edged weapons brought in for show-and-tell. I managed to snap a few pictures, but wasn't able to capture the blade in its entirety.

The owner only knew that it was from Algeria. Any info that I can supply him with would be appreciated. The fancy dangly bits I found intriguing.

Pictures are worse than I suspected, alas.

The style looks Tuareg to me.

I too thought "Tuareg".

What took my eye was the rectangular container on the scabbard with all the stuff inside it, and dangling below. I have no idea of whether it's some sort of traditional thing, or old tourist bling, or ?

I have no exposure to these swords, and I don't recall pictures of this sort of adornment.
