Default Yet another gunong for comment

Hello,

it seems that it is gunong time! Have won this mislabeled gunong with MOP handle, the seller stated that the fittings are from silver. Since we have had recently a discussion about the age of this daggers it would be from great interest for me what you think how old this one is. My guess: 1920-1930

What an attractive piece. It has an almost pesh-kabz shape.

Hi Gene,

the blade shape and the handle from MOP was what let me bid.

Best,

Detlef

I would agree with you - 1930s? Exact dates are difficult for these.

It may even be early 1940s - MOP was a later development.

Hope you etch the blade to see if there is any lamination.

Do you guys think this is the original sheath. Usually when i see silver ferruled gunongs the fittings on the sheath are also silver....and the gunong does not seem to fit into this sheath fully. Seems a mismatch to me...

Was there much manufacture of these in the early 40s. I would think that WWII and the Japanese invasion would have squashed that.

Hi Jose,

yes, will etch the blade. The elongated handle and the thin bulbous midsection let me think that it is more early. You don't think that the midsection would be more bulgy by a 1940s gunong?

Best,

Detlef
