Default shamshir - edge up ??

Sorry if this is something well known, but I was surprised to see that mamluks have worn their shamshirs edge up. Attached are pictures of napoleonic mamluks, with an exception of the one whith the man (Mehmet Ali) surrounded by turkish forces shooting at mamluks below - for comparison turks have their shamshirs worn edge down.

For your fancy - Murad-Bey Yaqtaq (the butcher) and weapons captured by French from Mamluks.

Nice pictures, all of them. It is true that some people used to wear the shamshirs edge up, like shashkas. Someone told me that there is a fast draw this way.

One move, draw and cut, try it with attention for furniture.
