Default What is this?

When I saw this one I thought it looked familiar. Now, not so much! Anybody have any info on this. I don't even know what to call it. It's probably all tourist.
10 inch blade OAl 15 inches. Sorry I've always been an impulsive buyer.
Thanks for any ifo or comments, Steve

Interesting. Hilt is horn? Obvious Turkish/Persian influence to guard and pommel. Tell us more about the blade? How thick? What are the cross-section or cutting edge like? The dangly dealie seems Afghan?

Default Re hilt and Blade

Hi Tom, Sounds like your moving it towards its origins. The texture of the horn caught My eye too. Problem is too much area covered by decorations. The blade is thin about an eight of an inch and rounds down from the center to semi sharp edges. Could this be Moroccan I'm thinking I read they copied Indian/ Persian Styles. The blade is slightly flexible and may well be a section of a broken blade.
I've included a recycled foot long very flexible blade that is barely more than 1/16th inch thick, it has a huge 6 1/2 in. Rhino horn hilt with Balkan shaped ends.I don't think this one came from the Balkans. thanks, Steve

To me hilt reminds of some yemeni, arab saif saber hilt decorations... Blade clean up and etch might reveal a pattern and give us a clue to at least blade origins.

Default Re Blade Contrast

I thought it might have Shamshir origins, perhaps for a boy. The hilt accepts an adult hand, ruling that out. Repeated Etches show a very low contrast linear grain. Thanks, Steve
