Default Curator donates 3 million euro collection to Leiden

The former curator Frits Liefkens of the National Museum in Amsterdam who passed away in 2010 has donated a rich collection ethnografica ( 750 pieces) to the Royal Ethnological museum.

Among them a superb collection golden objects. They have made a webspecial about the donation on www.rmv.nl ( note that you don't select the english language) but select "webspecial"

they will be exhibit the collection in 2013 ( they hope)

a video presentation can be watched here ( starts with advertising) but certainly worth vieuwing !

(what you see is curator Francine Brinkgreve and shots from the collection and the house of Frits Liefkens.)

It is good news to hear that a collection as impressive as this is going to be shared in a Museum, however painful it is to hear of a fellow enthusiast (and more yet someone who made this his life's work) passing away.

I know a few people personally who own larger collections of ethnographic antiques. I wonder if donation is something they have taken into consideration. It's a very good idea, I think.

Incredible collection this must have been!
Surely I will revisit the museum when the exposition is ready for public.

I hope they will give us a chance to expose most of it, if not all of it. It's really amazing how much euro's his collection was worth. Must be all museumpieces, just where it belongs!
