Default kindly requested to advise on the origin of this Ottoman dagger

first of all to our friends who indulge in sugar now:

happy Eid el Fitr / Bayram mubarak Olsun

hope you and ofcouse other Forum members can help me as I am puzzled.

This dagger bought at an auction was described as :

Turkey - 19th century - dagger,
With wootz blade silver kofgary
Horn hilt , silver Leather scabbard

to me it could be 20th century as well but it certainly is Ottoman.
My question is ... from where..?
Some characteristics indicate perhaps Surmene ( the 2 small fullers at the blade) but the horn blade and more important the star/sun sign I have seen on Bosnian daggers, specially from Foca...

Any idea? Your opinion about the dagger in general is most highly appreciated ! thnx a lot

Hello,

You mention wootz blade. Can you show us a photo with the wootz pattern please?

To me, the two grooves that go all the way up to the tip are an indication of a repurposed, bigger and older blade.

Wootz blade was the seller’s description but as soon as I get the dagger, I shall certainly post more detailed pics. Thank you already for your first very interesting reaction. Makes me more eager to check the dagger upon arrival.

Probably a repurposed yataghan blade. The style, placement and decoration of the koftgari and fullering is typical of those blades.

I would concur with the Surmene attribution but I am not an expert!

just arrived and cleaned some dirt of scabbard and handle/grip with some virgin olive oil. The floral like decorations on the scabbard do let me remind of the scabbard of this bichaq: http://vikingsword.com/vb/showpost.p...8&postcount=67
although the dagger (handle and blade) differs

Here are some pics. Looking forward very much again to your comments
