Hi Angren:

We don't give valuations on the Forum, but if people wish to PM or email you they can provide some information about what your sword may be worth.

The style of silver decoration on your sword is typical of Shan work, as often seen in the smaller knife versions. However, there appears to be wider diffusion of the style to include Kachin and other ethnic groups. The Shan do occupy NE Burma (Myanmar) in what is known as the Shan States, as well as being found in more northern areas of Burma, northern Thailand, neighboring Laos and southern China (Yunnan).

This particular style of silver decorated scabbard and hilt on sword length dha seems to date from the late 19th C., although the smaller knife versions with ivory hilts probably predate that period considerably. Your example appears to have some age, and could be late 19th C. but the date you have been given (early 20th C.) would fit too.

Ian.
