Still inside the scabbard ! Is the spheric tip style as early as this dagger appears to be ?
Are the hilt and pommel top in a different metal ?

I noticed that as well. The coloration and decay are markedly different. I would guess maybe latten?

Norman.... LOL....
I would strongly support your theory, but it was not stick into the rock, just lying there...

Fernando, now that is an interesting question! "Is the spheric tip style as early as this dagger appears to be ?"

Pugio... yet it striked me, but... spheric tip of the scabbard? I think it is not that old, just corroded?

I'm not the lucky finder of that dagger and I haven't hold it in my hand still, besides that, the layered hilt is of a west mediteranian tradition, or am I wrong? It seems a different material on the hilt/guard. perhaps bronze or brass, or as Senefelden just guessed, latten?

As for the geographical location it was found in styria.

Here's a picture of a modern replica pugio, taken off the internet. Similar dot decoration to the sheath ??...

Cheers
