What kind of cloth is is, is it cotton or silk? If on cotton then it would be referred to as a painting on canvas, if silk then it would be referred to as a painting on silk. As to where it might be from, I could only guess that it might be Persian BWDIK.

Best,
Robert

It will have to be cotton; surely not silk ... but loosely woven; much thinner than the classic canvas we see in western paints.
So Persian it will be, thanks .

The scene looks Indian to me and not Persian.

Not a problem Fernando. As I said before, it was only a guess.

Fernando, here is a section from a Persian char-aina cuirass, you can see the difference in dress etc between the Indian scene from your image and the Persian ones.

Thank you for the example, estcrh.
I had meanwhile browsed on Indian tiger hunting scenes and my doubts were vanished.
