Default Early Iron Luristan Short Sword

Blade Length : 35,5 cm
Hilt Length: 14 cm
Hilt width at blade connection : 6cm
Blade width : 2,8 cm to 3 cm
Overall length 49,5 cm

Interesting piece, thanks for posting. The form of the hilt reminds me of those Sudanese short swords. Wonder if there is any possible connection there ?

An interesting thought Colin. You mean the hilts like this? http://oriental-arms.com/item.php?id=2214 There are certainly some broad visual similarities.

Yes, that's it Iain. There is also another similarly hilted sword from the Sudan, but with a wooden and sometimes bone hilt, but a longer blade. Other Sudanese items of material culture are thought to originate from Ancient Egypt/Nubia, such as headrests and lyres. H'mm...
