Default Pendang

I received a sword from Surabaya, Indonesia. Attached are some photos. The blades structure may be pattern-welded. The grain lines in it appear long and wavy. Would anyone tell me more about this item, level of quality, age, if I should attempt to improve the blades appearance, if so how? Polish, etch, arsenic trioxide, wash and dry, ect.
The final picture shows the condition of the scabbard complements of FedEx International. Repairing / resurrecting this sheath is going to be a challenge. To give credit, the shipper kindly, refunded my entire purchase.

Yes I agree - the blade is laminated.

Welcome to the forum!

This seems to be an old pedang blade; possibly pamor adeg - sharper pics would help to confirm.

The scabbard and the hilt are a more recent addition - pretty much the same concept as with Japanese storage scabbards. Thus, not that much of a loss.

The value certainly is in the blade and pics will help to address quality as well as suitable strategies for improved staining.

Regards,
Kai

Hello Rockelk,

Welcome to the forum. I agree with Kai but I don't think that you need to polish the blade and give it a new etch, I just would remove the few rust spots.

Regards,
Detlef
