Default LAZARI COMINAZ, 1580 - 1641.

Hello,

Does someone have some informations of the famous lazari cominaz ?
We all know his famous barrels, but except that what we know about him ?
He lived from 1580 until 1641 ( seems that he was killed by angelo chinelli ).
He was from brescia- Gardone.
what about his origins ?
Seems that lots of albanian from the north ( especially from dulcigno ) had family name komina, and a place is named KOMINA in dulcigno.
Could he be from the arberesh immigration ?

Salaams ~ I could only find the following partly translated ... but have reproduced the lot for library research purposes ~

Cominazzo (Cominazzi, Cominassi of Cominaci until the first half of the sixteenth century). - Famous dynasty linked to the production of reeds for handguns, mainly active in Gardone Val Trompia from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century. A branch settled in Brescia and, presumably, is dedicated to finishing and sale of weapons civilians.

The continuous repeated use of the same names and the informal but tough patronimizzazione of the most common of these is (Lazarus, Lazarino), has made it very difficult for now is the attribution of reeds known (present in all the hundreds of museums and collections in the world) , is a reliable differentiation of various family members, and their specific activities. It should be noted that, since the sixteenth century, the organization produttivadi Gardone - center for special privilege conferred by the Venetian Republic, had a monopoly of the manufacture of the barrels - provided the work of "masters kettles" (masters of cane verie own), the "masters drillers", the "masters leveling", the "masters of headworks", the "masters moladori" sometimes "masters camuzzatori" (of those, that is, in relief that decorated the barrels) and masters "fornidori" (those who applied finish, the viewfinder and on canes or perarchibugi matchlock muskets, cup).

A differenza di quanto comunemente creduto, solo pochi dei C. Unlike what is commonly believed, only a few of the C. furono "maestri bollitori" (tra questi vanno ricordati: Vincenzo di Andrea, attivo nel 1673; Vincenzo fu Francesco, che nell'anno 1688 aveva prodotto e venduto 1904 canne civili; Andrea, attivo nel 1689; Pietro, attivo nel 1724, e Bartolomeo, attivo nel 1744). were "masters kettles" (among them included: Vincenzo Andrea, active in 1673, Vincent was Francis, who in 1688 had produced and sold 1904 barrels civil Andrea, active in 1689, Peter, active in 1724, and Bartholomew , active in 1744). Most of the others were "moladori" or "camuzzatori" and as such rifinirono and signed numerous rods actually manufactured by others.

The fact remains that at least for two centuries - from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century advanced - "Lazarino Cominazzo" has been synonymous with high quality manufacturer of rods, as is attested by contemporary treatise writers, whatever their scientific reliability (eg. L ' Art fabrile A. Petrini, ms., 1642: see ed. by A. Gaibi, A manuscript of 600 ... in Antique Arms, 1962, p. 129), and that the term "reed lazzarine" already employed in the early seventeenth century (Pistofilo Bonaventure, The Oplomachia, Siena 1621: see Angelucci, 1890, p. 426) is located, forged, on canes century (Schedelmann, 1972, p. 286). The term "Lazarina" is still used even today in the Portuguese-speaking countries, to indicate a hunting rifle (C. Gaier, Quarre Siecles of Armurerie Liégeoise, Liège 1977, p. 56).

Inoltre, la presenza e l'operosità di alcuni C. Moreover, the presence and activity of some C. in Brescia anziché a Gardone (da cui però si vantavano sempre di provenire) sono attestate, oltre che da numerose "polizze d'estimo" redatte in Brescia in varie epoche (Gaibi, 1962), dai diari di viaggiatori contemporanei: si veda, oltre al citatissimo John Evelyn ( The Diary of John Evelyn [1646], a cura di ES de Beer, Oxford 1955, II, pp. 489, 528), Richard Lassels ( The Voyage of Italy , Paris 1670, II, p. 439). in Brescia instead of Gardone (from which, however, boasted always come) are evidenced, as well as numerous "bills of valuation" written in Brescia at various times (Gaibi, 1962), from the diaries of contemporary travelers: see, in addition the much quoted John Evelyn (The Diary of John Evelyn [1646], edited by ES de Beer, Oxford 1955, II, p. 489, 528), Richard Lassels (The Voyage of Italy, Paris 1670, II, p. 439) .

Sul ramo bresciano dei C. On the branch of Brescia C. si è appuntata, l'attenzione di A. was concerned, the attention of A. Gaibi (1960 e 1962), che cercò appunto di ricostruirne la genealogia; ma sia le conclusioni del Gaibi, sia quanto pubblicato in opere successive deve essere accettato con cautela e con riserva di verifica; poco attendibile appare, in particolare, Der neue Stockel , I, Schwäbisch Hall 1978, pp. Gaibi (1960 and 1962), who just tried to reconstruct the genealogy, but the conclusions of both Gaibi, both published in the following works must be accepted with caution and subject to verification, is not very reliable, in particular, Der Neue Stockel, I, Schwäbisch Hall 1978, p. 233 ss. 233 ff.

1593 firma una ricevuta per canne fornite al duca di Mantova (riprodotta in Angelucci, 1890, p. 427); un "Lazarino" non meglio identificato (forse sempre lo stesso), di cui si parla in un documento del 1595 (A. Bertolotti, Le arti minori alla corte di Mantova , Milano 1889, p. 160); Andrea, già defunto quando il figlio Vincenzo sposò nel 1603 Cecilia Zambonetto; Bernardo, vivente quando nel 1606 la figlia Camilla sposò Pietro Piccinardi; Giacomo, defunto quando la figlia Giacomina sposò nel 1607 Francesco Moretti. we documented information (in addition to those derived from the valuation of policies mentioned above, the news is not followed by bibliographic references are due to the researches of M. Morin) are as follows: John Angelo (1538), Anselm (154C; Lazarus ( said Lazarino), already deceased when his son married in 1588 Geneva Bernardino Guerrini, Francis, already deceased when his son James married Veronica Chinelli in 1595, the "Lazarino Cominazo de Gardo" that July 19, 1583 wrote to the Registrar and Secretary of the count N . Gambara a letter which speaks of "straight pipes" that had to send in Verolanuova (R. Guerrini, in Gardonese Anthology, 1969, p. 302), a "Lazari by Gardo" (do not know if the same), which on Sept. 7. signs a receipt for 1593 cane supplied to the Duke of Mantua (reproduced in Angelucci, 1890, p. 427), a "Lazarino" unidentified (perhaps the same), mentioned in a document of 1595 (A. Bertolotti, the minor arts at the court of Mantua, Milan 1889, p. 160), Andrea, already deceased when his son Vincent in 1603 he married Cecilia Zambonetto; Bernard, living in 1606 when he married the daughter Camilla Piccinardi Peter, James, deceased when his daughter Jacqueline married in 1607 Francesco Moretti.

This list is, at present, can only benefit to reconstruct a reliable family tree of the dynasty, but nothing is known about the actual events of the individual members of it, nor on their industry. More news we have of John Angelo "Lazarino" of Lazaro was sentenced to ban together with Lodovico Tempini and Hieronimo Ferrai (Ferraglio), both masters of reeds of Gardone, in 1614, but to confuse the ideas are the signatures of some existing weapons Firearms generally dated to the first half of the century. XVII and play "Angel Lazarino Cominazzo" or conversely "Gio Lazarino Cominazzo" (Carpegna, 1982, under the entry).

Quando, il 23 apr. When, on April 23 1632, il provveditore generale in Terraferma Alvise Zorzi revocò i bandi che avevano colpito tutti i maestri coinvolti in assassini e violenze, fra i graziati figurava un Lazzaro Corminazzo (Morin-Held, 1980, pp. 83 s.) che nello stesso anno sposò Camilla Chinetti. 1632, the general superintendent in the Mainland Alvise Zorzi revoked the proclamations that affected all teachers involved in assassinations and violence, among the pardoned included a Lazarus Corminazzo (Morin-Held, 1980, p. S 83.) That same year he married Camilla Chinetti. At the same time he lived and worked another Lazaro, celebrated by his contemporaries, who, banished to 1621, he worked for fourteen years in the service of Lorenzo de 'Medici. In the latter Lazaro, who in the important documents published by Morin (1979) calls himself "Lazarino Cominazzi" rods and "Lazarino Cominazo", the ban was suspended in the year 1635. Between 1638 and 1639 he "ran" the beautiful canes to two rifles and two pistols that were later donated to Louis XIII by the Venetian Senate: The three survivors were identified, with reasonable certainty, nell'archibuso and two guns now Stockholm, Livrustkammaren, nn. 1606, 1607, 1782. 1606, 1607, 1782. These are among the rare firearms dating Brescia precisely because, contrary to dealers of other centers, in the Lombardy, with very few exceptions, do not ever put the date on their products.

During a shooting occurred in Gardone July 22, 1641 by Angelo Chinelli mother died, a month later, with a arquebusade Lazaro killed in turn, blamed for what had happened.

Other members of the family which is known are the late Joseph Anthony (1612), Aloisio (1629), the late James Fortunato (1631), the late Andrea Vincent (1632), Francis (1635). Another Lazaro is remembered in 1670, while in 1695 there was a Pietro Giovanni Maria and the children of brothers Peter and Bartholomew Lazaro. The latter, near the end of the century, leaving the Veneto region and take refuge in Lecco in whose castle implanting a forge for the manufacture of military barrels, still active in 1708. Also in 1695, is reminded John that could then be that John (called, as usual, Lazarino) of Lazaro was still active in 1714. In 1696 Peter and Bartholomew's uncle, Angelo, said Baldo, the late Giovanni Maria, had killed James Pedretti, master of reeds in the service of Julius Caesar Chinelli, gave himself into hiding, was captured in 1702 "while a traveler undress" near Asola (State Archives of Venice, the Inquisitors of State, b. 19, f. 237).

On July 24, 1696, from Venice, the Council of Ten had ordered the arrest or killing of Lazarus (in reality, according to the reconstruction of Gaibi, 1960, was named Fortunato), generally regarded as the most able and active member dynasty operating in the second half of the century. XVII. XVII. L'uccisione dello stesso per mano di persona rimasta ignota segue nell'ottobre 1696 a Gardone. The killing of the same hand of unidentified person follows in October 1696 in Gardone. For provision of Rectors of Brescia, after four days the body was exposed to the public in Brescia, in the usual place of justice to the Village of Battery. The following year John (the one above?) Is sentenced to the galley and then delivered, in Venice, the magistrate dell'Armar.

Deserve mention, again based on data found in the Archives Parish Gardone (the house was destroyed during the riots of 1797), a Bartholomew, Lucy's father had married in 1675 to Louis Beretta, direct ascendant of the current owners of large factory in arms, brothers of the late James Vincent and Mark (1764), the late Joseph Vincent (1764), the late Charles Anthony (1764), James was Andrew (1764) and the late Vincent Bartolo (1764).

Nel corso dell'Ottocento ebbe praticamente fine l'attività del C. During the nineteenth century was virtually the end of the activity of C. quali fornitori di canne di alto livello. as providers of high quality reeds. Their signatures, genuine or false, are mostly on arms destined for the market of the East, generally of poor quality. However, a Marco (1803-1877: L. Falsina in Gardone Anthology, 1969, p. 303 ff.), Modest but skilled workers of government weapons factory in Gardone, last direct descendant, he claimed, of the famous family and a passionate folder of documents on local affairs, it must be remembered if only for having published in 1843 (Brescia) and again in 1861, Notes on the arms factory in Gardone Valtrompia that provide some interesting news today.

The almost absolute impossibility, which is easily deduced from the above, to assign with certainty to one or another member of the dynasty surviving works that bear the name Cominazzo, has led some scholars to make use of conventional signs (Lazaro I and II; Lazarino I, II, etc..) corresponding roughly to certain times and certain biographical data assigned to individual artists. But this trick so far has been the major drawback of using different criteria to be applied according to various authors (Stockel, 1938, p. 66, 373; Gaibi, 1968; Boccia, 1967; Schedelmann, 1972), giving rise to further uncertainty and confusion. Esisteanche the complex and thorny problem of "false lazzarine and is a phenomenon that is already talk in de Arte y Monteria ballesteria Alonso Martinez de Espinar (Madrid 1644, quoted in Gaibi, 1960, p. 80; for the original text see JD Lavin, in Antique Arms, 1964, p. 111) and is also expressly incorporated by Isidro Solèr in 1795 in Los Arcobuceros de Madrid, quoted by Hayward (1962, p. 193), which mentions some criteria to be used to distinguish true from the false "lazzarine." The argument was taken up by Schatzmannnel 1971 (p. 44), but it is still to be deepen and far from being solved, like so many others involving firearms from Brescia in general.
