Moro Taming Shield

A few weeks ago I was badly in seach for a Moro taming shield for my collection, I could really careless if it was antique or recently made. I found two antique ones, problem, each would probably cost my entire Moro weapon collections, not a good idea. I had contacted a few local wood carvers but no one would dare to try, my mistake, there was one, but the shield would be carved out of burl wood? and according to him/carver it would weight at least 15 lbs. or more. I remembered a post from a forum member in P.I. regarding a custom made Barong sword, and I tought that if this guy can custom make a Barong, he may know someone or he may know also how to carve a taming shield

It was worth a try. . . . .here's the finished work after 3 weeks.

Each instructions and details from the photos given was precisely copied, and not just that, each daily work on the shield was photo captured and transmitted to me via email every other day.

Two custom ordered Moro taming 30" (painted) and (26") natural.

Those are glorious.

How much do they weigh, just out of curiosity?

26" (4.25 kg) 30" (4.50 kg) the materials used were fully seasoned.

I would hate to hate to carry that around in a battle for very long.

Very nice work! Little more curved than antique ones, but well carved. Antique ones were made of a light wood.

Not sure if this will cause any trouble but the 30" was copied from Herbert Krieger's book "Weapons and Armor PI", and the smaller one

copied from a 19th c. moro taming. sorry, it's currently being sold

me too, an' i thought Blue's was heavy.

i like the bottom moro shield pics, the black sets it off real pretty-like and the rest of the decorations are top notch.
