Default Small Dha

Hello Members,

I get some years ago this Dha as present. Since this is not my area of collecting i wish to get some further informations about this dagger. All informations about origin, age and quality would be very appreciated. It is 44 cm complete with a blade from 25 cm. Thank you very much in advance.

How thick is the blade?

I believe this is a Kachin style from northern Kachin state of Burma.

Actually, this is a Shan dha hmyaung. We used to call the style "Metro Kachin," but subsequent research pointed toward Shan/Tai (Shan State in eastern Burma, or northern Thailand).

Age is very hard to estimate, but it likely is early 20th or later 19th century. The quality looks quite good.

I think you're missing a fair amount of silver from the fittings. The grip section of the handle probably had silver mesh or, perhaps, rattan rings.

Good possible but then this is missing longer because the patination on the wood is old. Thank you for the hint.
