Thumbs up An intereting site for the lovers of Indian military history and culture

While browsing the web researching Indian khandas, I stumbled up this very interesting site with heraldic symbols and history of many Indian states and provinces. Interestingly enough, it appears that various forms of knighthood were often granted to Indian rullers by the Brittish crown. I guess this was done to legitamize the authority of these individuals when India was still a colony.

I find these heraldic crests to be absolutely facinating - they are drawn in a clearly European style but with certain elements being distinctly Indian (i. e. elephants and leopards instead of heraldic lions and gryphons, presence of katars, shamshirs, and khandas, mottos written in Punjabi, Hindi, etc). Very cool stuff!

Hi Stan,
That is one interesting site!! Not my area of collecting but certainly of interest for historical purposes and information in general. Thanks for posting.
