Default Polearm/spear heads

Hello all,

Could anybody tell me more about two polearm/spear heads I recently acquired when purchasing another item.

They appear to be from India to my eye, but would welcome input from more knowlegable members.

Southern Indian. A couple of similar examples in Egerton's southern India section.

Elgood's book, Hindu Arms and Ritual is the book on southern Indian arms. http://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/...bo3705137.html

Many thanks Timo,

I shall endeavour to track down a copy of the book you link to.

The top spear seems to have a thick wedged armour piercing point, but the second is curious due to its upcurved blade.

Do these different styles/shapes have particular names, and are they associated with different regions?

Would anybody suggest a date? I would guess ballpark 1800-1840?

That's fantastic Antoine!

Many thanks indeed for taking the time and trouble to post up the relevant pages, most enlightening!!

There is certainly the possibiliy that my two are older than I first thought, which is quite amazing really, especially as they came with along with something else!
