Default Solomon Island staff?

Looking in a house clearance junk shop today, I came across this, that looks very much like a walking stick or gentleman's cane and I bought it thinking so. Later at home I realised it has never had contact with the ground soft or hard. Unfortunately it does have some damage which I shall have to learn to live with. Bearing in mind how sought after south sea stuff is does the damage really ruin it, I do not know? some damage is often always going to be there.
