Default Sudanese Arm Dagger

Hello All!

This old worn dagger has been floating around my collection for quite a while, in fact this is the dagger that led me to this forum. The sheath is some sort of crocadile skin that has shrunk very tight, and the blade shows sighns of heavy use, sharpining, and corrosion. On one side of the blade there is a flowing water design and on the other is a inscription most likely in arabic. Chould someone please translate this inscription? It also has nice silver fittings on it with one solid silver stud missing, keep in mind I polished the silver. Truley I am not sure where it came fromthis is just an educated guess.

Now let me see? (only kidding) you have a nice old example of a late 19th century Sudanese arm dagger.

Very nice and old dagger. Sorry, I can't help with the translation.

This type of dagger is still made in the Sudan. Here's a recent product. Not quite as nice as yours, but functional. It was collected near Darfur (Sudan) in 2004 by a person working there.

It has a simple wooden handle. The wooden scabbard is covered in red leather to which some imitation snake skin is added. The sheath also contains a small pincet (for removing thorns) and a big needle. The blade seems as it's ground down from a piece of metal, but has very sharp edges.
Total length : 28 cm.
