Default Interesting Axe auctioned

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1609750825...84.m1438.l2649

Looks decidedly Indian to me but an interesting shape none the less.
I had intended to bid because of the interesting form of the head. It almost looks like it meant to be a crescent shape and was cut back to a bearded, giving it a slight 'wrongness' to it's proportions.

However I couldn't quite shake a slight unease about it and the wooden 'spike' and small size: 38 cm x 10.5 cm, eventually made me decide against bidding in the end.

Thought you peeps might enjoy seeing it.

I had a pair of these a while ago - I was puzzled myself - they seemed to have a very Anglo-Indian feel about them.

I sold them before taking pictures - schoolboy error. But you are right, mine were both full crescent heads, so this looks to have been re-shaped probably because of some damage.

Nonetheless, they were great little axes, and felt quite good in the hand. I think a small axe sometimes makes sense, since the same force you may use with a large axe is obviously greater when the point of impact is smaller.....you know what I mean....!!

I think perhaps it is a sugar hatchet. Quite lovely though.
