Default spear tang removed?

Ebay item # 7123355650 is an Euro-American fishing spear head that seems to have lost its tang. The same seller had another, similarly lacking; is this some sort of disturbing practice? Has anyone encountered this before? Is there, unbeknownst to me, a style of tangless fish spear?.....answers? Questions?......

MOST OF THESE I HAVE SEEN ALWAYS HAD A TAPERED SOCKET ATTACHED THAT FIT OVER THE END OF THE POLE AND WAS HELD ON WITH A NAIL THRU A HOLE IN IT. I HAVE SEEN SOME OF THESE GIVE WAY ON SMALLER GIGS BUILT LIKE THIS ONE SO THAT MAY BE WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS ONE.

Or a tang with a ferule is also pretty common to my experience, and can also rust/snap off, but what struck me as odd was that the same seller had two such (one square shaped, one rounded), and there was no visible stump or remains of tang on either..............
