Absolutely impreressive pieces of cannon, thank you, Alexander!

The author is certainly right in adopting T'Sas's idea that Le Spantole is actually just the gigantic breech (powder chamber) of an even much bigger piece of Late Gothic ordnance to which it seems to have been screwed.

The huge Mons Meg (exhibited in the courtyard of Edinburgh Castle), together with the Faule Magd in Dresden (the barrel about 1450, mounted on a later carriage) and the Pumhart of Steyr, is no doubt the best known gigantic piece of cannon made of staves and hoops (Stabring-Geschütz).

These monsters usually threw balls of stone.
