Default Cleaning Indian wootz

Hi All,

This is my 1st post so forgive me if this topic has been discussed earlier.

I've been collecting Indo Persian arms for many years now but have never attempted to clean or etch any pieces myself. I've seen pieces runined by amateurs and the very thought frightens me. Could someone please tell me in simple form how to go about this task?
