NICE!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm drooling!! Interesting hilt style. What is the hilt metal....looks to be brass or copper? If it ever feels the need for a new home..................

Heavy patina on the brass the back is iron the blade is well forged and really sharp.

Thanks Lew,.......as I said , a nice piece. Unfortunately we see VERY little of this sort of thing in New Zealand, almost never at auction, and about the same at our gun shows.

A question to Dom:
You mention name Malsa and blade type Beyd.
In the Saudi book on Islamic swords and armour, they mention several names for this type of Jambiya (Muqafalla, Mufarragha, Dharia, Rashaq,Malsa) and several blade types (Muayyar,Beyd, Nafihi,Shbeyl) without any further explanations.
How did they differ from each other?
Can you elaborate?

then, the pic's ... a good magnifying glass

and studies of similarities
- hilt shape
- design in the middle of the blade

I got the chance to have them in hands many time during my 6 years of residence in KSA
where there are much more expensive on suk, than in USA or Europe auctions

Just wanted to state a correction on the blade length which is 17.5 -18 inches long not 14".
