I have managed to get it apart.

Surprisingly, the hilt and cross-guard are two pieces and not one as I first thought.

A long tang with what appears to be a hand-cut thread on the end. It is, at least, very crude.

The number 1 and the letters ( very faint ) AX on the tang.

I am sure that the scabbard is leather covered.
