Hi. it is a ww1 period Turkish military sword. i know it as not infantry but artillery officers sword. They were produced in several (at least 3) different lengths with the same scabbards and hilt, and with differing steel qualities. Plus, there are a few models more, which were not produced in Turkey but imported from Germany ,having blades with German maker marks. All of them were straight. However, only once I met a sample with curved, strong blade, again with the same hilt model and the same inscription. Perhaps was a private order.. I dont read Arabic alphabet, but as far as I know the inscription writes "Allah bizimledir" in Turkish meaning "Allah(God) is with us".

regards

Hi Mavi,
have now got the Turkish officers sword I mentioned earlier. Good quality steel and a horn handle. I have posted this on the European Armoury Forum, in case you are interested

David,

nice sword, congrats on your purchase. there was another one on sale on flea bay that just ended that i missed and went quite reasonably for the economy now. I wonder if your blade will clean, but you are lucky with the rhino handle, mine is wood, but the blade is still shiny with no pits. i am lucky in that regard.
enjoy

Hi Mavi,
thank you for your comments I get the impression (from you) that these swords are no longer 'plentiful'. If this is the case.....do you have any idea why ?
Was this the sword you were refering to.......

Yes,
that was the sword I was referring too. Reasonable price. I had not seen many for sale for years, then in the last bit there has been quite a few for sale. Could be the economy. Still after that elusive ottoman/turkish kilij I want, but have not been able to afford, and probablyu never can.

Thumbs up Help from Istanbul

Received by e-mail:

Salaam,
This is Efdaluddin Kilic from Istanbul. I am a calligrapher and sort of expert on Ottoman texts. I have been asked about a sword this morning by one of my friends and while searching I came across with your website. The same sword on http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=11300 is in front of me at home now. And to be a sort of help to your forum the inscription reads in Turkish but with the Islamic letters ¨ ALLAH BIZIMLE¨ and means ¨Allah (God) is with us¨.
Cordially,
Efdaluddin Kilic
