Looks Ok to me Bill, Id vote for north west Africam myself.....

Heres what I am told by those that specilise is an old Taureg Jambiya showing use of moniter or lizard skin & a lovely springy hollow forged blade.
So reptile skin doesnt apear to be just Sudan Nile regions, from what I can see.
