Hi,
that cartouche says Shah Abbas. Is this a wootz blade? The blade is certainly Persian. I think the date reads 1231. |

Bravo Anizi, I think we have Qajar military sword. Only I don't know, I feel something northern indian in this one, or am I seeing things.

Thanks for the info. Not even having the inscription the right way around is just evidence that I have no language knowledge. Shah Abbas, cool. I have only cleaned a small area and it did not show any pattern with either Tannic acid and wostershire sauce, I must get some Nital (shame on me to be out of it).
It is a funny piece. Really worn down brass guard, horrible scabbard, also with worn fittings. But the blade seems quite nice under all the stuff on the surface. Thanks again Rivkin and S.Al-Anizi. ![]() |
