Thanks Jim, great to add a bit of history.

The Chilean Navy was formed in 1817 and always maintained close links with Britain. This was largely due to Lord Cochrane - a former British Naval Captain -who was hired to command the new navy. He established British naval customs and regulations.

The fleet was initially formed from captured or purchased second hand ships and the crews were supplemented by British, Irish and American sailors, many of whom had been left unemployed after the end of the Napoleonic wars.
