Your original post looks virtually identical to the example in the Met link you posted. I think your OP has been silver plated at some time, some of which has been lost at the end of the hilt. If this is yours, congratulations on a very nice find. You might want to look at the end of the hilt to see if the pattern number, 3849, is visible.
