I show you some photos of a Suhl made wheellock carbine with a strange sign, an orb with "ZM" on its left side. I wonder if someone knows something about this sign. Provenance: Sotheby's sale 5th-15th October 2005 'The Royal House of Hanover - Das Königshaus von Hannover'. Lot 729. The weapon comes from Cumberland Castle, Gmunden/A, 1890, inventory number G 443

Very good, many thanks!!! But when I was at the Marienburg in 1987 in order to check the pieces which could go into the projected Christy's auction, which took place in octobre 2005 and which the family wanted to keep, the total stock of firearms went through my hands. But not ay single gun, carbine or pistol wore this sign, So it is very questionable wether it stands really for "Zeughaus Marienburg".

when I saw the wheellock rifle above at Czernys last December I searched my memory for this ZM as I have certainly seen it before.

it has everything of being a Zeughaus mark. if I compare it with e.g. the marks in the stock in muskets from Emden, Graz or solothurn. ps It only appears on military weapons, if it is not Marienburg, it may be a weapon from Munchen that somehow ended up there. best, Jasper |
