Could be a Polish sabre. The script at the blade is "STEPHANUS REX POLONIAE ET RUSSIAE" what was the Polish and Russian-Lithuanian king Stephan Batory between 1533 and 1586. Certainly the blade is much younger and perhaps been made for the memory of the 200th date of his death.

The blade has that indefinable something that says 18th century to me. The hilt, very 19th.

I agree, David. Not only is the hilt very 19th-century but stylistically there's nothing Polish about it. A marriage of convenience to an earlier blade.

Thank you for your entries.
So we talk about with an 18th century blade with 19th c handle and a scabbard from a Turkish officer sword! Can the handle show any place of origin? |

One clue is that the actual grip looks to be covered in tortoise/turtle shell, natural or synthetic, often seen on Chinese and Japanese swords of the later 19th century..

Stephanus D.G. Rex Pol. D. Prus, says Poland or Transylvania.
Frangia reports to Hungary. The hilt resembles to me the Austro-hungarian navy officer sword of 1857. Captured sword later rehilted? |
