Agree with Broadaxe, unfortunately. Very recent. Handles of shibriyas are cow, goat or sheep horn, often completely covered with metal sheet.
In some shibriyas, and especially Palestinian ones, modern materials are used for the grip, like bakelite or any hard plastic.
