Kai hit me by the translation!
  A very nice 19th to very early 20th century Bugis badik, and yes, the handle is from hippo ivory. That the nice carving is only on the front side of the scabbard isn't uncommon and I don't think that the scabbard is shortened. Very nice badik, when you get ever tired looking at it......
