A heavy French siege helmet Excavated in Bourgogne.

Two pieces skull faceted in fourteen sections with a pivoted peak This helmet is with additional plates mounted on the skull . Siege helmet with such faceted skull are very rare. Weight about 7 kg. Any comment on it would be welcome. Last edited by Cerjak; 1st May 2017 at 05:23 PM. |

That dent is the bullet impact Proving that the helmet would absorb fire from hand gun, the dent it made in the skull, showing that the bullet didn't penetrate.

Owners necks would have to be stronger than those of Formula 1 pilots, due to G force

a lot of the weight would be distributed down to the rest of the armour and padding the helmet rested on and thus the shoulders took a lot of the burden. i think they and the rest of the armour were heavier as manning the walls didn't require the same mobility as on a battle field, and the extra thickness helped against missiles. if the enemy ever got over the walls and fighting became hand to hand, a lighter armour might be better. you could switch if you knew when they were going to make it over.
