It's Indian, possibly recent. Basically a sword-sized knife. Not sure what these should be called; I've seen them called "jambiya" based on the hilt style.

I was offered a small group of Sikh weapons several years ago, all late 19th century and early 20th century, there was a very similar dagger in the group. Since, I have seen a few of these daggers and many have small clues that they were made in the Punjab, possibly for Sikh use at the turn of the century, and early 20thC.
