Here are a couple examples that are similar: Cambodian http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?p=81846 Lao http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=13658 See Mak 2,(Cambodian) for similar brass decor on the handle. http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6204 Burmese sheaths with brass scabbard decor: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6349 http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=6350 http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=5970 I will have to look more for the others I had in mind. I still have yet to comment as well about the blade. Last edited by Nathaniel; 12th December 2013 at 03:14 AM. |

Honestly Nathaniel, none of those really look similar to me other than that they are wooden sheaths with metal bands. Those materials are used all over SEA. I was hoping to see something with the same shape and profile of Detlef's example. Flat, wide, slightly wider at the bottom. The closest thing in this thread is in Emanuel's post # 22, the top sheath in the second photo.

Ah, David, the examples given where not meant to be exact, but just to show that there are similar styles since you said you where having trouble finding similar examples on the SEA mainland. As I mentioned in thread #24 "The sheath is probably not all that distinct...on the SEA mainland similar could be found...with the simple brass bands and chape...black lacquer covering.." indeed generic perhaps, but actually not when the blade and handle are tied in...frustratingly... I do have some photos which would satisfy you from a collector that collects only Cambodian weapons, but the photos are not mine to pass on... I know this answer is less than satisfying. I'm trying to find some other examples that I can show...knives are not my area of interest so I have not archived them as well as I have longer weapons which I collect.

Have received the knife, it's a nice little fellow. Here some just taken pictures, one for size comparison with a badik. The handle sleeve is from silver.
