thega or sosun pata ???
can we consider this sword as a Thega or a sosun pata?
Anyone know you it the marking on the blade and its meaning.. .It is 99cm long, the blade 79cm 5.5 cm wide at the beginning of the blade and 8 cm at widest... |

It is an early south Indian susan pata.
I am afraid that I cant tell you the meaning of the chiselling, but it is interesting to notice, that the person shown has a 'ball' like mace, as they were also old. Later they usen maces of other types. |

Could the chiseled figure be Vishnu or perhaps Hanuman?? I believe they are carrying a ball-head mace in many images and statues. I believe I see a tale in the image and a somewhat distorted face....I lean towards it being Hanuman(Picture source: India Vilas).

I think you are right Charles - It's Hunuman - you can see the tail, and the large top lip.
