Philippine - Japanese sword

Hello Everyone;

I am a recent member and a new weapon enthusiast. I recently picked up this sword at auction and was informed, that it was a sword of Filipino Origin. Upon careful review and input from another knowledgeable collector, I believe it to be a Japanese sword modified using Filipino materials for the handle (horn, bronze, wood).

Has anyone seen anything like this? Can anyone, help me with further input on the blade.

Its specifications are as follows:

Total Length: 24 inches approx

Blade Length: 18.5 inches approx

Handle length: 5.5 inches approx

Sword Handle material: buffalo horn, kamagong ? Bronze

Scabbard Material: Wood with bronze strapping

The Auction house was correct..it is 100% made in the Philippines...I doubt that is a Japanese made blade or a re-handled blade. These were made mostly post WWII as copies of Japanese swords with aluminum fittings and some times the blade has some okirr engravings on them.

What part of the Philippines do you think this blade originated from ?

Hello,
Most if not all of these were made in Mindanao by the Moro craftsmen in Lanao and Marawi. Some were even made with large elaborate handguards engraved with okir. In fact I have one with a scabbard inlaid with copper that says "Victory Made in Lanao."
