At least we may assume these are incendiary arrows. I realize they rather look as if a sheet of paper with the the notice 'Surrender!' is wrapped around the tips - but how much sense does that make?! From Diebold Schilling: Berne Chronicle, Switzerland, 1483; Siege of a town. By the early 16th c., firearms had completely taken over in wafare.
