Bugis or Sunda?

To me, it looks more a pedang than a golok. For instance, the handle is too impractical for a golok . If it were indeed Soenda, then the handle would normally be buffalo horn including its natural hollow. (The construction of the scabbard would've helped in the identification somewhat.

)
As deciding whether an item is a golok or a pedang can be quite a subjective thing, it can be difficult without actually handling the item.
At this stage, I'd venture it to be a Pedang Abet Sintoeng.

Hello Amuk,

thank you for comment. Sadly there is no scabbard but the handle is hollow, look picture 5. The sword is around 57 cm long with a blade from 42,5 cm.

Thanks, I did see the hollow. I was merely making an assertion.

The length is OK for both a golok pandjang or a pedang.
Is the blade laminated in stripes?

don't see/know more as you since I just win it by ebay and haven't received it yet. Do you think that it is Sunda in origin?

Hi Detlef,

Just stumbled upon this thread and somehow I missed it before.
To give an answer to your question, it is indeed Sundanese.
I think the best thing to call this is a "gobang" for now, as there is no other name for it found in old articles nor museumcollections.

thank you but the gobang is sold already some time ago. Hope to get a better and complete one.

Yes that is the way it goes in private collections.
not complete, but very old of age...
