You are partly correct. It is a Persian sword but not shamshir blade. It has a straight blade. Unfortunately, I am out of town at the moment but I will try and remember to post a pic of the overall sword when I return.

I can't read it either, the calligraphy is also so stylised i can barely even make out letters. I confess I find Thuluth and Kufic script a lot easier to read than Persian script.
