There 2 options:
a) soak the hilt intermittently in lukewarm water till the hilt loosen,
b) heat the blade from a distance till the hilt is loosen (most effective way that I've tried)

Another option which is quite risky, place the blade in between a thick book, put pressure on the book while trying to move the hilt bit by bit.
