The stock shape certainly looks european, maybe eastern rather than western. Is that a further mark of some sort on the top of the barrel in front of the rear sight, or just a rust stain? I can find no reference in the books I have, to the A in the oval, but have you checked UNDER the barrel to see if there are any further marks of any sort?
