What you describe is also known as a "Priests Knife" and is usually sold on Ebay and in markets as a Buddhist Amulet to ward off bad spirits. I understand that Buddhist Monks/Priests also carry them for literal protection also.
They come in all sorts of sizes up to about 10",and it is most likely that most are of relatively modern manufacture. Pic attaced of a very small one that I have.
I am interested in your comments re prices of knives etc in Thailand at the moment as I will be there next week for a 3 week holiday. Will let you all know how I get on when I return.
