It's certainly touristy.
Probably from Veracruz. Bolos descend from the pre-roman spanish falcatas and greek-carthagininan kopis. The Argentinian Bolo follows the tradition of the 1898 Spanish bayonets. used way too effectively by the Legion in Spanish Marruecos.
