Default late Klingenthal

I wonder if anyone can offer any insights into history and purpose of this Kingenthal sword. It appears to be from the Coulaux & Co. period, which would date it post 1840. I have been guessing that it was meant to serve as a hunting sword or as an "artillery" sword.
