Salaams Colin Henshaw. Here is the origin of species of the Omani Shield "The Terrs"(as indicated in the very nice article) Made in ancient times when Rhino were as common as rabbits.. Traded with the bouyant Omani seatraders of old... and produced thesedays from a number of different materials including wood, reed, polyplastic and other animal hides likely to be water buffalo and a peculiar reference that keeps cropping up ... from an animal that barks called the "dog of the sea" (Kelb al Bahr) probably a Walrus where the hide used is off the back of the neck between the shoulders..Traditionally the original hide appears to be Rhino.
