I'm inclined to think the west from the choil, overall blade profile, and the sheath (though the guard along with the execution of the clip-point does have a Chinese 'falvoring' to it IMO). Does the blade have a flat grind or a hollow grind? Also, is the tang threaded (I'm assuming it is, as you removed the 1-piece grip)? Could you post a picture of it?

The checking on the end of the grip leads me to think it may be older than the blade...
